The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the motorcyclist, identified as a man in his late 40s, hit the back of a tractor-trailer car hauler on New Kings Road.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash at the intersection of Soutel Drive and New Kings Road Thursday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sgt. Robert Hungerford said the motorcyclist, identified as a man in his late 40s, was traveling southbound on New Kings Road at the same time that a tractor-trailer car hauler was traveling north on the road.
Hungerford said the crash happened when the car hauler made a left turn to get on Soutel Drive. The motorcyclist reportedly hit the back of the car hauler.
Hungerford said members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department then responded to the scene and pronounced the motorcyclist dead upon arrival.
According to Hungerford, the driver of the car hauler is cooperating with the ongoing investigation into the crash, and is unlikely to face any charges as Hungerford said a witness told police it appeared that the motorcyclist ran a red light just before the crash happened.
This crash marks as the 17th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2026, and the fifth involving a motorcyclist.
“Just be very careful, watch for motorcyclists,” Hungerford said. “Motorcyclists, please wear your helmets and high-visibility gear. It can help people see you when you’re on the roadway.”
