TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – An estimated 26.2 million U.S. employees are expected to miss work Monday following the Super Bowl matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks in Santa Clara, California, according to the annual UKG Super Bowl absenteeism survey.
With many viewers choosing to watch the game from bars and restaurants, local businesses are preparing for one of the busiest nights of the year.
Restaurants across the area are gearing up for packed watch parties, increased food and drink orders and extended hours.

Island Wing Company is among those bracing for the rush.
One employee, Abbey Fulp, said Super Bowl Sunday consistently ranks as one of their busiest nights, with high demand for wings and drinks.
“On our normal Sunday, where we have normal football games, we are obviously pretty busy, but the Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year,” Fulp said.
“So we have a lot more people coming in, a lot more people wanting wings specifically and beer, so it’s usually a lot busier here for Super Bowl for sure. We’re planning on a lot of people, a lot of revenue.”
Fulp said the restaurant began preparing days in advance to handle increased crowds and higher demand for food and drinks.
