Paul Posnak and Anita Castiglione
The Rotary Club of Coral Gables invites you to a special performance by internationally acclaimed and award-winning pianists Paul Posnak and Anita Castiglione, presented as part of the Rotary Club of Coral Gables’ 80th Anniversary Celebration.
The Friday, Feb 27, performance will be a Duo Piano Recital with a special evening of masterpieces for one piano, four-hands, featuring internationally renowned artists who are Coral Gables residents.
The concert will feature sparkling sonatas by Mozart and Francis Poulenc; the hauntingly beautiful Impressionist Mother Goose Suite by Maurice Ravel; a lyrical row by the great Black American woman composer Florence Price; dazzling Cuban Danzones by Ernesto Lecuona, and George Gershwin’s brilliant, swinging Cuban Overture.
Posnak is an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, recording artist, and educator. He began his career at age 8 with a full scholarship to The Juilliard School, where he earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees and received the Loeb Prize, Juilliard’s highest honor.
A First Prize winner of the International J.S. Bach Competition and the Concert Artists Guild Competition, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, White House, and U.S. Supreme Court, as well as throughout Europe and Asia. He is internationally renowned for his improvisations and transcriptions of the great jazz pianist-composers of the 1920s and 1930s.
A world authority on George Gershwin and Fats Waller, his acclaimed recordings and transcriptions are published by Hal Leonard and Alfred Music. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Miami Frost School of Music and fdounding artistic director of the Martha/Mary–Yamaha Concert Series.
Castiglione is an accomplished concert pianist, collaborative artist, and educato. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Miami, a master’s degree from The Juilliard School — where she received the Juilliard Alumni Award — and a doctorate in Collaborative Piano from the University of Miami.
She has performed extensively across the U.S., appearing at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC; Yamaha Recital Hall in New York, and with the Lynn Philharmonic Orchestra. A highly sought-after collaborator, she has worked with artists from the Metropolitan Opera and the Cleveland Orchestra, and recently recorded Gershwin for Two with Posnak.
She currently is an adjunct faculty and pianist for the major choral ensembles at the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
The concert will take place at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, located across from the Biltmore Hotel. It is one of the city’s most treasured historic landmarks and a beautiful example of Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean Revival architecture. Its historic character, warm acoustics, and central location make it an ideal and intimate setting for a piano concert.
Wine and Hors d’oeuvres will be served during the social hour at 6;30 p.m. followed by the concert at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit local and international projects by the Rotary Foundation of Coral Gables. Tickets are $75.
