During last night’s “Big Game,” football fans had some options when it came to the Super Bowl: they could either stick with the NFL’s broadcast and watch Bad Bunny, or flip it over to one of the many ways to watch Turning Point USA’s “All-American Halftime Show.”

Turning Point USA leaned more into the country music genre, with Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett all performing during their show. Obviously, Bad Bunny put on a show doing the thing he’s known for… Latin hip-hop sung entirely in Spanish. In Bad Bunny’s defense, his show wasn’t as divisive as many expected it to be. At one point he held up a football that read “Together, we are America,” and also led with the American flag. But many still decided to tune into Turning Point USA’s programming, which was presented in English.

And many bars in Nashville shared that they had plans to switch over to the “All-American Halftime Show” during the Super Bowl. I’m sure they weren’t the only establishments across the country to do so. In fact, we know that a bar in St. Petersburg, Florida called The Zoo Club changed the channel in favor of Turning Point USA’s show… because they are currently getting review bombed for doing so.

The Zoo Club, also called The Zoo Sports Club, announced prior to the event that they would be showing the Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. That led many in the surrounding area that were looking to get out for the “Big Game” to try out the sports bar. Things seemed to be going okay there… until the manager made an executive decision to flip to the alternative halftime show just before Bad Bunny was set to take the stage.

You can see how that went over (at least for this one person) in this mega-viral TikTok:

@boogieboyee What was supposed to be a proud moment for me and my people was taken away tonight, please share make this business accountable. The Zoo sports bar and grill in St Pete FL. #badbunnyhalftime #badbunnyhalftimenightmare #racistbar #racistbusiness #foryoupage ♬ original sound – Boogieboyee

Quite the ugly scene… and pretty funny that the manager said “Good” when the TikToker told him he’d be posting the video on social media.

To be fair, it doesn’t look like the establishment had that high of a Yelp rating prior to last night. But now, it’s undoubtedly nosediving thanks to reviews like these below that are on their Yelp page. If you are to scroll through The Zoo Club’s reviews, almost all of them have been added today (the day after the Super Bowl).

And here are some that really take aim that the place for changing it from Bad Bunny to Turning Point USA:

Dwayne M. – 1 out of 5 stars

“Horrible service, filled with bigots and hate. The food is nasty and there is a rancid smell everywhere. Probably best to find a place that smells less like a Jr. High boys bathroom. Oh and they ruined halftime. The manager is MAGA and dumb as soap. Paid for the Super Bowl experience… I left at halftime.”

Prince J. – 1 out of 5 stars

“I went to The Zoo expecting a typical sports bar atmosphere where everyone could enjoy the big moments together. Instead, what I witnessed was a bar that seems more interested in pushing a political agenda than creating a welcoming environment for all its patrons. During the halftime show, a customer politely asked why the bar refused to play Bad Bunny’s performance.

Rather than keeping things neutral or accommodating what many people clearly wanted to watch, the staff chose to play a Turning Point USA segment instead. Let that sink in: at a sports bar with wall-to-wall TVs, during one of the most widely watched entertainment moments of the year, they opted for political content over mainstream halftime entertainment.”

Laney S. – 1 out of 5 stars

“Manager changed the SUPER BOWL HALFTIME.. to a completely different halftime. Didn’t get to see the original, due to what he prefers/wants.  Could have perhaps split the screens… but no, he decided to play another version of the halftime on all TVs. NOT WHAT WE WENT DINE IN FOR.”

Guillermo R. – 2 out of 5 stars

“Food was okay, the service was mid, the ambience was good until the halftime show. I walked out and didn’t tip the bartender. I had to go somewhere else to watch it. That was some BS. They obviously they don’t know how to cater to the public. No one wanted to watch that weak MAGA halftime show. I’ll never come here again. Good thing I was only here for work.”

Clearly the channel switch had some people up in arms.

On the flip side, there are some customers/reviewers that are leaving five-star reviews, and commending The Zoo Club for shifting to the alternative programming at halftime. Just check out some of these that are… I guess the opposite of review-bombing. Maybe review-defending?

Jeff S. – 5 out of 5 stars

“Service is great, food is okay, people are great, and the fact that they played the Super Bowl made it a fun place to be. I was super glad when they changed the channel at halftime to the All-American halftime show. I know some people complain, but I want to commend the owners.”

Thomas C. – 5 out of 5 stars

“Amazing venue. Outstanding food and service! True AMERICAN experience. Great atmosphere for people who love this country and everything it stands for.”

Jason S. – 5 out of 5 stars

“Good food, good service. Great place to watch a game with a sporty vibe. The management is great and I respect their choice in programming.”

It’s truly a political rock fight in the review section of the Florida restaurant. Maybe the age old saying will be true for The Zoo Club… any publicity is good publicity? Maybe not…
