The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a sergeant deployed his Taser at the man before firing multiple shots at him.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man accused of driving a stolen vehicle for the second time in two weeks was shot and killed by two Jacksonville sheriff’s officers Tuesday night during a foot chase, according to the agency.

The incident reportedly happened on Kaleel Road.

Around 11:15 p.m., while in undercover vehicles, JSO said Patrol Task Force officers located the man inside a “known stolen vehicle” near 61st Street and Main Street.

Two weeks prior, JSO said the same man was seen inside the stolen vehicle. The man fled during that incident, JSO said, as officers involved in the incident confirmed the man was armed with a gun at that time.

After locating the man in the stolen vehicle Tuesday, JSO said undercover units called for marked patrol cars to follow him. Officers continued to follow the man to Kaleel Road. Once there, JSO said the suspect turned off the vehicle’s lights and pulled into a driveway.

The man then exited the vehicle and ran away from the car, JSO said. As officers chased after him, Sergeant M. Howell reportedly deployed his Taser twice at the man. JSO said it is unknown at this time if the probes made contact with him.

After the Taser was deployed, JSO said the man pulled out a handgun, prompting Sergeant Howell and Officer. M. Higginbotham to fire multiple shots at him.

According to JSO, the man died at the scene. The sheriff’s office has not yet released his identity due to his next of kin not yet being notified about his death.

This marks as the 4th officer-involved-shooting in 2026 for JSO. Once the State Attorney’s Office completes its investigation, JSO will conduct its own.
