FSU pledges full support for coach Mike Norvell, aims for strong Seminoles rebound

  • October 22, 2025

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida State University officials released a statement Monday regarding Head Football Coach Mike Norvell and the football season after its recent loss against Stanford.

Florida State Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Alford’s statement comes following the college football team’s four-game losing streak and its ninth straight Atlantic Coast Conference loss, per the Associated Press.

In the statement obtained by WCTV Monday morning, Alford said:

“Florida State football benefits from unmatched passionate support from the entire FSU family, and the commitment to our football program is unwavering. We rightfully have high expectations in everything we do to represent Florida State in the manner that built our reputation as one of college football’s best programs, cultivating an extraordinary group of supporters nationally and globally. We embrace those expectations while also sharing the deep disappointment when results on the field are short of that standard. As we continue to move forward this season, our comprehensive assessment of the football program will be completed at season’s end. Meanwhile, we are fully committed to helping Coach Norvell and the 2025 Seminoles strongly rebound in the coming weeks.”

Rumors circulated online regarding whether the FSU head football coach would be let go after the Seminoles’ 13-20 loss against Stanford on Saturday.

Questions about Norvell’s status as head coach also emerged amid the University of Florida parting ways with its now former head football coach, Billy Napier, this past weekend after three and a half seasons, sister-station WCJB reported.

The news of Napier’s departure came just hours after UF defeated Mississippi State 23-21 in its annual homecoming game Saturday.
