TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A driver who was injured in a major crash that shut down Interstate 75 on Monday has died.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that the crash occurred near the Hillsborough-Manatee County lines after a semi truck driver attempted an illegal U-Turn at mile-marker 235.

The truck moved into the path of a Toyota Corolla which struck and became wedged under the trailer.

The car’s driver, a 28-year-old man from Parrish sustained serious injuries.

He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
