FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A Fort Pierce restaurant’s late-night break-in turned into an unexpected comedy act, as the suspect battled their cash register for over six minutes, leaving behind a trail of chaos in search of nothing but a bag of coins.

Swift Grill posted on Facebook that on Tuesday night, at around 4 a.m., their surveillance footage captured an active suspect breaking into their cash register, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

Swift Grill shared highlights from the surveillance video, jokingly noting, “They say people are ‘breaking down the doors’ to get our food… but this wasn’t exactly what we had in mind.”

The video shows the suspect wrestling with the cash register for a staggering 6-1/2 minutes, which resulted in shattered glassware and damage to an office door, all in an effort to snag what turned out to be just a bag of coins.

Swift Grill has reached out to the community for assistance, asking anyone who recognizes this “entrepreneur” to contact the authorities. “To our Fort Pierce neighbors: Keep your eyes peeled,” they urged.

Despite the unfortunate event, the restaurant’s spirit remains unbroken. In their Facebook update, they assured patrons that cleanup is already underway and that they’re ready to get back to business. “We’re here to stay!” they proclaimed.

The good news for fans of the grill? This incident only fuels their determination to succeed. Swift Grill is gearing up for the grand opening of their second location at PSL Heart of Tradition, asserting their commitment to “feeding the Treasure Coast.”
