Artist chosen to paint new mural on JEA pump station under Fuller Warren Bridge

  • October 22, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville’s newest masterpiece is on its way to the Riverside Arts Market.

A new mural is being painted under the Fuller Warren Bridge, and the Riverside Avondale Preservation and JEA selected Patrick Maxcy to do the job.

“It just makes a community very prideful, very happy,” Maxcy said. “They enjoy it. Their kids get energized. To see a plain, brick concrete building turned into something that is full of life and full of energy for people to just enjoy and be inspired by.”

The mural will be on the JEA sewer pump station. That facility collects sewage from the Riverside area and sends to the JEA treatment plant.

“A lot of waves and things like that going on, but you will be able to see above the water and below the water in the St. Johns River,” he said. “There are going to be a lot of local wildlife, such as alligators, manatees, local birds, fish. Some fun little hidden things, like flora and fauna.”

Greg Corcoran with JEA knows a lot of people roam around the area where the mural will be due to things like the weekly Riverside Arts Market and consistent community events.

He wants the new art to provide a visual explanation of why the St. Johns River is important to the area and thinks Maxcy is the perfect person for the illustration.

“We hope that it will be like an ”Instagrammable” type of place where people will come get pictures of it,” Corcoran said. “It really pops. You are really going to see from far away and from close up. There are going to be a lot of interesting detail.”

Whether it is brush or spray paint, Maxcy has more than 15 years under his belt as a professional artist.

He said he has painted murals both home and abroad, including at the New Orleans Aquarium and in Uganda. (Photo Courtesy: Patrick Maxcy)

He said he has painted murals both at home and abroad, including at the New Orleans Aquarium and in Uganda.

Now, he is bringing his talent to Jacksonville, building under the Fuller Warren Bridge.

“Hopefully each time they come, they find new little hidden things that they can get excited about,” Maxcy said about people observing the mural once it is done.

Maxcy said his goal is to finish painting the mural by Thanksgiving.
