St. Pete police say patrols have been increased after a slight uptick in complaints from the Jordan Park neighborhood.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — After a shooting last week and an increase in complaints to the police department, one St. Petersburg neighborhood is being addressed in council chambers as city leaders search for ways to help.

St. Pete police say patrols have been increased after a slight uptick in complaints from the Jordan Park neighborhood, including the shooting of a man in the neighborhood last Sunday.

Autionna Blockson says she’s lived out at Jordan Park for about four months, and in that short time, she’s already had her own experience with crime.

“Recently, my window was just broken by a rock. A kid just threw a rock in the air and busted my window and ran,” she said.

City leaders are looking at ways to address the issues.

“I have family members that live in Jordan Park, and for them to have to hit the ground because bullets are flying, that brought it close to home for me,” Councilwoman Figgs-Sanders said at a city council meeting on Thursday.

Figgs-Sanders made a motion to help expedite the process of the city addressing reports of increased violence in the area, as well as other resident concerns.

She says city leaders will also be looking at ways to help similar issues in the Child’s Park and Harbordale neighborhoods.
