Whether it’s the drivers, congestion or perilous roads, getting behind the wheel in Miami can be quite the challenge. And a recent study by legal firm Lemon Law Experts confirms what many locals already suspected: the city has the worst drivers in the U.S.
Looking at the most annoying driver behaviors across 40 of the nation’s largest cities, the study asked residents what they often witness and admit to doing themselves. Categorizing them into groups, such as aggressive, reckless, distracted and rude driving, the study concluded that Miami swept nearly every negative category.
With an “annoying driver score” of 98.50 out of 100, 86% of Miami residents rated local drivers at a seven or higher on a scale of 0 to 10 — 10 being most annoying.
Aggressive driving is described by the study as honking excessively, tailgating and getting out of the car to confront someone, with Miami leading the way once again to score 91.37 out of 100.
We didn’t come off too great either when it came to reckless driving. The city ranked second, behind Las Vegas, with a 94.66 score. This is due to factors like rolling through stop signs and cutting across lanes without signaling, which 84% of local respondents stated they had witnessed.
“Next time you get in your car, keep in mind that the choices you make behind the wheel impact more than you and your passengers. While switching lanes without a signal or forgetting to turn your high beams off when another car is driving toward you may not seem like a big deal, it can still affect other drivers,” the study reads.
Key takeaways of the study
When looking at the Top 3 cities where drivers are exhibiting the most annoying behaviors on the road, Miami was followed by Las Vegas and Nashville, respectively. As for aggressive behaviors, Miami was ranked at No. 1, Philadelphia at No. 2 and Nashville at No. 3. Conversely, Minneapolis made it as the city with the “least annoying drivers.”
