Five pro bono champions to be celebrated in Miami

ABCs of Family Law SeminarThe Put Something Back Pro Bono Project in Miami is recognizing five pro bono volunteers on October 24 “who have gone above and beyond” to support Dade Legal Aid and Put Something Back on matters involving children, teens, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

They will be recognized at The ABCs of Family Law Seminar, designed to recruit and train new attorneys to handle the growing number of family cases. The seminar offers 5.0 CLE, and is free to attorneys who agree to accept a pro bono family case from Put Something Back.

The pro bono honorees being celebrated include:

Robert “Beau” Blumberg, a partner at Deutsch, Blumberg & Caballero, is receiving the 2025 Outstanding Service Award for his commitment to expanding access to justice. With extensive experience representing clients in high-stakes cases, he is known for his strategic approach, persuasive advocacy, and dedication to the community. He is actively involved in numerous organizations and community initiatives, reflecting his deep commitment to the legal profession and public service.

Robert J. Merlin, a board-certified family law specialist with over 40 years of experience, focuses on collaborative family law, mediation, and dispute resolution—helping clients achieve amicable outcomes that prioritize the well-being of the family. He has served in many leadership roles and has spent over 500 hours on pro bono family cases.

Ashley Garcia, a rising third-year litigation associate at Greenberg Traurig, is receiving the Pro Bono “GAL” Award for her outstanding contributions to pro bono guardian ad litem cases and for inspiring others at her firm to get involved.

Jason Soman, a CPA, will receive the Pro Bono Service Award for his work on three separate family cases. A co-founder of Soman Stewart CPA PLLC, he is dedicated to providing solutions for businesses and individuals, including clients from the Put Something Back program.

Melanie Hyer, an experienced real estate professional and active volunteer, participates in a variety of community events and hosts an annual holiday party to benefit Legal Aid clients. She will receive Legal Aid’s Outstanding Community Partner Award for her generous contributions.
