JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — A Jacksonville carjacking turned into a blazing wreck Sunday when a fleeing suspect crashed the stolen car with the victim’s baby still strapped inside.

Body camera footage released by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shows the chaotic aftermath after investigators say a man, later identified as 34-year-old Richard Younger, forcibly pulled a woman from her vehicle near 103rd Street and sped off — with her one-year-old child still inside.

Deputies report that they quickly located the stolen vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Instead of stopping, Younger fled, leading deputies on a brief pursuit that came to a violent end when he slammed into another vehicle, triggering a flame-filled explosion captured on bodycam video.

Deputy Almin Residovic raced toward the burning wreckage, pulling an unconscious woman from the second vehicle to safety and rescuing the unharmed one-year-old from the stolen car. Officials say a 14-year-old was also in the car, but managed to escape before deputies arrived.

Probable cause was found to book Younger for counts of carjacking, leaving the scene of a crash without rendering aid, aggravated fleeing from law enforcement after a crash, and false imprisonment of a child under 13 years old.
