A suspected thief in Fort Lauderdale stabbed an officer as they were being arrested on Saturday, authorities said.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police, at around 11 a.m., officers arrived at the 1600 block of North Federal Highway after receiving reports of a possible robbery.

At the scene, the suspected thief fled on foot, and a pursuit ensued as officers deployed a Taser.

When the suspect was being taken into custody, they stabbed an officer, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the suspect also suffered minor injuries, and the two were taken to the Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

During their investigation, police said the incident was a strong-armed robbery of a cellphone between the suspect and the victim. who knew each other.

The victim was not injured.

The suspect’s identity or the charges they are facing were not released.
