A phone robbery spiraled out of control when police officers tried to arrest the suspect and one of the officers was stabbed Saturday morning, Fort Lauderdale police say.

Around 11 a.m., officers were called to a possible robbery in the area of the 1600 block of North Federal Highway, authorities said. Officers learned there was a strong-armed robbery of a cellphone between people who knew each other.

It’s unclear how officers found or determined a suspect, but they started chasing the unidentified person. A taser was shot at the suspect and while they were arresting the person, the suspect stabbed one of the officers, police said.

The officer suffered a minor non-life-threatening injury as did the suspect. They were both taken to Broward Health Medical Center.

The suspect has charges pending.

This is a developing story.
