TAMPA, Fla. — Monday, Feb. 16, is Presidents’ Day — a federal holiday to celebrate George Washington’s Feb. 22 birthday, Abraham Lincoln’s Feb. 12 birthday and generally honor all U.S. presidents.

Every year, it’s celebrated on the third Monday in February.

While some businesses and offices are closed for Presidents’ Day across Tampa Bay, others will remain open. Here’s what to know.


Is the stock market open on Presidents’ Day?

No. The U.S. stock market (NYSE and Nasdaq) is closed on Monday, Feb. 16, for Presidents’ Day. Regular trading will resume on Tuesday, Feb. 17.


Is the post office open on Presidents’ Day?

No. The U.S. Postal Service is closed on Monday, Feb. 16, for the federal holiday. That also means no mail will be delivered today.

If you do need to ship something, UPS, FedEx, and Amazon are still operating.


Are banks open on Presidents’ Day?

Most major banks and credit unions are closed on Presidents’ Day, including Bank of America, Chase, Citibank and Wells Fargo.

A notable exception is TD Bank, which remains open on Monday, Feb. 16.


Is there school on Presidents’ Day?

No. All Tampa Bay-area public schools are closed on Monday, Feb. 16, for the federal holiday.


Is Publix open on Presidents’ Day?

Yes. Publix is open for regular hours on Presidents’ Day. 

Other major grocers like Walmart, Costco, Aldi and Trader Joe’s are also open on Monday, Feb. 16.
