  • February 17, 2026

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The theatre community in Tallahassee is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Krystof Kage, beloved actor, director and artistic director for New Stage Theatre Works in Tallahassee, passed away recently, leaving his friends and family heartbroken and shocked.

Those who knew Kage describe him as having a larger-than-life personality and a deep passion for acting and directing.

Over the years, he worked with thousands of people directing productions at Tallahassee State College, Brookwood School in Thomasville, and numerous other theatres throughout the community.

Earlier this month, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, Kage died after his vehicle crashed into a pond in Leon County.

Close friend Melinda Melendez called the loss “an absolute tragedy.”

“He was 53 years old, so no one could have seen it coming. It was just a tragic car accident, and it’s really just heartbreaking,” Melendez said.

Melendez said Kage had a gift for bringing people together and was always willing to step up when something needed to be done. She hopes others in the theatre community will honor his legacy by continuing the work he cared so deeply about.
