Crowds gathered to celebrate Lunar New Year at Jefferson High School and Water Works Park in Tampa over the weekend. The celebration marks the end of the Year of the Wood Snake and begins with the Year of the Fire Horse in the Chinese zodiac calendar.

“It’s a celebration of a new beginning for family gathering and to also show our culture,” said Thanhmy Nguyen, a co-organizer for the Tet Festival at Jefferson High.

Customs and traditions observed at the festivals include the lion dance, wearing of traditional clothing and the exchange of lucky money.
