A person inside the home mixed multiple caustic chemicals, which reacted to cause a small explosion. It damaged the roof and left fumes coming from the home.
TFR’s hazmat team and the Tampa Police Department’s bomb squad were called out to the home. Nearby homes were evacuated temporarily out of an abundance of caution. Residents returned to their homes at around 1 p.m.
No one was hurt. Two people requested medical evaluations but declined to go to the hospital.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosives Investigations also responded to the home.
