According to an arrest report, Edwards’ daughter and the granddaughter of the victim reported the alleged abuse of the elderly women, who lives with Edwards.
Edwards’ daughter told police Edwards has been neglecting to take care of her mother and had photos on her phone of the mother “with feces in her hands and consuming it,” the report said.
She also said that in August or September, she witnessed Edwards, who appeared upset and frustrated, slap her mother on the face, the report said.
A second witness said he had visited the home in May and found the 77-year-old with feces on her hands and told Edwards to clean her.
“No, she’s going to learn because she is always doing this,” Edwards replied, according to the report.
Detectives went to the home to check on the victim and found her bedroom door locked from the outside, and she was found laying on an air mattress with no electricity, the report said.
Edwards told detectives her mother has medical conditions and doesn’t recognize anyone anymore, and said on five occasions she has seen her mother consuming feces, the report said.
Edwards admitted she had become frustrated but denied slapping her mother, the report said.
The victim was taken to Palmetto General Hospital for medical observation.
Edwards was arrested and booked into jail before she appeared in bond court on Wednesday, where she was ordered to stay away from mother and granted pre-trial release with an alternate bond of $3,500.
