A Miami Lakes man was arrested Tuesday morning after leading Miami-Dade deputies on a chase that reached more than 125 mph, the sheriff’s office said.

The pursuit began around 2 a.m. Tuesday when a Hialeah police officer conducting car burglary patrols near State Road 112 and Okeechobee Road tried to pull over the driver of a silver Infiniti G37. The driver was circling the area in a way that appeared as if he was casing parked cars to burglarize, the report said.

After the officer turned on his lights and sirens, the Infiniti driver, identified as 22-year-old Alexander Navarette, sped off eastbound near Northwest 42nd Avenue (Le Jeune Road) and 36th Street, according to his report.

The officer tried to use his car to block Navarette from getting on the ramp of State Road 112. Navarette swerved toward the patrol car, causing the officer to lose control of the vehicle.

Two sheriff’s office deputies riding in one patrol car saw what happened and took over the pursuit, according to a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office report.

As the deputies, with the car’s lights and sirens on, tried to pull Navarette over, he veered his Infiniti at them, causing the deputy driving to almost lose control of the vehicle, the report states.

The deputies then tried to get closer to the Infiniti to read its tag, and Navarette swerved left, causing the patrol car to crash into the center guardrail, according to the report.

Navarette then drove onto Interstate 95 near the Northeast 135th Street exit, and a sheriff’s office helicopter crew took over the pursuit, the report said. Navarette soon after crashed off the side of the road, near the intersection of Northeast 185th Street and 21st Court in North Miami Beach, the sheriff’s office said.

Navarette resisted deputies as they cuffed him, according to the report. There were three other people in the car with him, who were also taken into custody, the report added. Those people were not named.

Deputies found two loaded guns in the car, including one they found on the driver’s side floorboard within arm’s reach of where Navarette sat, the report states.

On Wednesday, Navarette was being held at Turner Guilford Correctional Center on a total bond so far of $8,900, with bond yet to be set by a judge on other charges. He faces a slew of counts, including battery on a law-enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest with violence.

Information on his legal representation was not immediately available.
