JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A pedestrian was killed Wednesday night while attempting to cross Normandy Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, a man in his mid-50s, was walking southbound near the intersection with Lane Avenue South at around 8:30 p.m., police said in a news briefing. Investigators determined he was struck by a westbound SUV in the inner lane while he was mid-block and not within a crosswalk.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he later died, police said. The woman driving stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
All lanes of traffic on Normandy Blvd. were temporarily shut down following the crash as first responders worked, but opened shortly before midnight.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says this is the 27th traffic death of 2026 and the seventh involving a pedestrian.
