St. Petersburg and the American Red Cross are partnering up  to provide residents in Harbordale Neighborhood with free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education. According to a press release from St Petersburg, this event will be held tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Frank Pierce Recreation Center (2000 7th Street South, St Petersburg)

According to The American Red Cross, “the Harbordale Neighborhood ranks 6th in Pinellas County and 49th in the State of Florida for risk of home fires.” There are three key factors that the American Red Cross uses to assess neighborhoods for fire risks: frequency of past fires, proximity to fire stations, and socio-economic indicators such as income levels and census data.

Smoke alarms that are working can be lifesaving, if there is a house fire, occupants may have as little as two minutes to escape. Smoke alarms increase the chances of a safe evacuation and help provide early detection.
