A man is in custody after officials say he attacked and shot a door-to-door salesman multiple times, leaving him hospitalized.
It happened in the Providence Townhomes community in Brandon Wednesday night. Hillsborough County deputies were called to the scene around 8 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
Several gunshots can be heard on doorbell camera footage from a neighboring home, followed by people screaming.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body. Deputies learned the victim and a female coworker were working in the area, going to door-to-door selling telecommunication products.
That’s when the suspect, Reginald McGee, 38, reportedly became verbally aggressive towards the female worker. The two workers began walking away when McGee physically attacked them, deputies say.
During the attack, officials say McGee reached into his waistband and pulled out a firearm. McGee reportedly shot at the victim as he ran away, continuing to fire shots until he ran out of ammunition.
Body camera footage shows the moment the victim was found sitting at the front door of a residence. McGee had returned to his home. When deputies arrived, he exited with a firearm and was taken into custody.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials say.
The sheriff’s office said McGee remains in custody and is charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery and discharging a firearm on residential property.
