In Cape Coral, you can travel to India without ever boarding a plane.
The journey begins at Indian Breeze, a family-run restaurant where every dish is rooted in tradition and made with intention.
Indian Breeze is built around one idea. Food should feel personal.
The menu reflects that belief with both spicy and mild versions of classic Indian favorites, plus vegetarian and non-vegetarian options for every kind of diner. Fresh seafood, organic vegetables, exotic meats, and authentic spices come together to create flavors that feel bold but welcoming, especially for guests trying Indian cuisine for the first time.
Behind it all is Suman Chaniyil, better known as Chef Sam. He grew up in southern India watching his mother cook and learning the craft by her side.
“I’d watch her cook, and I wanted to be perfect like her,” he said.
He also attended culinary school in India, perfecting his craft.
“When you measure, you measure with experience for Indian food,” he said.
Now, after more than a decade in Southwest Florida, Chef Sam says the community has shaped his journey just as much as his upbringing did. His connection to the area goes beyond the kitchen. After the last major hurricane, he prepared and gave out 1,000 meals to people in need, using his skills to serve the community when it mattered most.
Chef Sam also donated $1,000 to the Harry Chapin Food Bank to help with WINK’s Very own March to a Million Meals.
“The community has always supported us, and we believe in giving back,” he said.
At Indian Breeze, the food tells his story. First time guests often start with crowd favorites like chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, or grilled lamb chops.
One dish that wins over nearly everyone is the garlic naan, baked the traditional way in a tandoor oven.
“It’s a clay oven with fire and heat from all sides,” Chef Sam explained. “It keeps the flavor inside the bread and the food.”
The restaurant may be less than a year old, but Chef Sam is no stranger to building successful kitchens. He also owns Le Indya Naples, Spice Club, and India’s Grill, expanding Indian cuisine across Southwest Florida one plate at a time.
What matters most to him, though, is not the number of locations. It is the people who return.
“It’s great when someone tries Indian food for the first time and gets hooked,” he said. “We love hearing that they’re coming back.”
At Indian Breeze, every meal is more than just food. It is a piece of Chef Sam’s home, his history, and his gratitude to the community that helped him grow.
For Cape Coral diners, that means one thing. A warm welcome, unforgettable flavors, and a reason to come back again.
