CARROLLTON, Ga. – It was another stellar night for senior Alicia Rey Perez and the Jacksonville Dolphins, as JU rattled off a 2-0 victory on the road over West Georgia.

The win moved the ASUN Tournament bound ‘Phins to 9-4-3 overall and 6-1-2 overall in conference play. Coming out victorious gave Jacksonville the season sweep over the Wolves. The win also moved JU to 3-0-2 in its last five contests and 7-1-2 in its last 10.

Rey Perez was the key to victory Wednesday night, notching a brace in the team’s second to last regular season game of the year. The pair of goals moved Rey Perez to 13 goals scored on the season which is tops on the team and second best among ASUN competition. She has recorded three braces in that time.

The 13-goal mark moves Rey Perez to a tie for 5th all time in JU history in goals scored in a single season, tying the 13 goals scored by Kaitlyn Bassett in 2013. If Rey Perez hits 14 goals scored this year, she will be tied for 4th with four other former student-athletes. The individual all-time season record is 20 goals set by Ranveig Aas-Hanssen in 2003.

The senior from Spain scored once in the first half (18th minute) and once in the second half (56th minute) to give JU a bit of a quieter victory than the team’s 5-0 win over the Wolves at home earlier in the year.

Jacksonville’s offense was on attack mode all game however, outshooting the home team 23-1. Eight of Jacksonville’s shots were on target.

Rey Perez, Laura Di Mascio and Manuela Restrepo each tallied a trio of shots. Rey Perez led the team in shots on goal with two.

Not to be outdone, the JU defense stymied any output by UWG, not allowing a single shot on goal for the West Georgia offense. Goalkeeper Pia Bozic didn’t officially even face a shot through 90 minutes of play. JU has forced four ASUN shutouts and six through the whole year.

Across the conference landscape, JU leads the league goals scored, points, scoring average, shots, shots on goal and assists. Defensively, JU has allowed the fifth fewest goals in the league.

As a program, head coach Ryan Moon and his team have already eclipsed last year’s win total of four with their conference wins alone. The team’s six conference wins also doubles the team’s conference win output from the previous season, which also saw the Dolphins to the ASUNT. Moon’s program qualifying for back-to-back conference tournament is a first since the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Jacksonville returns to action for the team’s final regular season game on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Queens. First kick is at 1 p.m. Previously, the Dolphins defeated the Royals 6-0 at Southern Oak Stadium. ASUN Tournament play begins Oct. 30.

COACH’S COMMENTS
“We were very mature tonight against a well-organized team,” Moon said. “They took away a lot of space and gave us challenging problems to solve which the girls responded well to. We kept our discipline for the full 90 minutes and earned the win and the shutout.”
