TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – In Tallahassee, thousands came together for one meal and great conversation at The Longest Table.
The event brings residents together for a free meal from 5 local restaurants at one large table along Duval and Pensacola Streets.
Mayor John Dailey said the event is about more than just food, he said it’s important to come together as a community.
“Things are a little tight and a little tough sometimes in society so anytime we can break bread, and come together face to face and talk about the silly things, talk about the serious things but talk, that’s what makes Tallahassee so special,” he said.
Dailey said that the meal allows neighbors and strangers to connect with each other.
“This brings us together with people that we might not see on a day to day basis or we might not even know and you might have a best friend coming out of this thing and its really really neat to see,” he said.
Neighbors got out on the dance floor with full bellies and big smiles and some enjoyed a few sweet treats as well.
City leaders said the last meal was back in 2019 and organizers were eager to start up the tradition once again.
