$2M in grants secured to fund library improvements in Havana

  • February 25, 2026

GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Gadsden County secured $2 million in grants to fund library improvements in Havana.

Officials say the original plan for the library was to add another story to the building with an elevator.

The cost of the elevator alone would take up a quarter of the funding, so the council requested to expand outward rather than upward. That way, Havana Town Manager Kendrah Wilkerson says they can use the cost of the elevator for another part of the library.

“It can be used to enlarge the footprint of the library, where the building itself can be bigger. There is going to be more capacity for a theater room or workforce development capability. It can be used to enhance the library in a way that provides better services,” Wilkerson said.

Havana officials say they will now have the county relocate the elevator funding toward that change in design.
