“Miami Nights,” the upcoming action thriller starring Oscar nominee Terrence Howard and Emmy winner Jeremy Piven, alongside Jeremy Sumpter (“Peter Pan”) and Sydelle Noel (“GLOW”), is heading to the American Film Market.
Nat McCormick’s Stoic has acquired worldwide rights to the film, which will be world premiering at the AFM in LA next month.
Directed by Justin Steele (“Death and Cremation,” “Gutshot Straight”) and written by Amanda Konis and Steven Lloyd Bennett, “Miami Nights” follows two decorated war heroes who are dishonorably discharged after saving a high-profile American journalist overseas. As they attempt to rebuild their lives, they become ensnared in a deadly scheme with local criminals, culminating in a high-stakes plot to steal a priceless diamond.
Alongside the lead ensemble cast, Sofia Pernas (“Blood & Treasure”), John Lewis (“Den of Thieves”), Danay Garcia (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Manu Bennett (“Spartacus”), and Thomas Jane (“The Punisher”) also star.
The film — which shot on location in Miami — is produced by Darryll C. Scott (“Bosco”), Natalie Kline (“The Fall”), and John Lewis (“Lullaby”) and serves as the flagship release for Drama Free Films, the Los Angeles-based production company founded by Steele, Micah Molinari, and Kline.
Serj Tankian, the Grammy-winning frontman of heavy metal band System of a Down, has contributed original music to the film, as has the music group that features in the film’s narrative.
“This project is exactly the type of bold, commercial filmmaking we’re passionate about,” said Natalie Kline, partner at Drama Free Films. “’Miami Nights’ has the cast, the music, and the scale to resonate worldwide. It’s an exciting moment for Drama Free as we expand our slate, and we believe this film will be a major calling card for what’s to come.”
Added Scott: “’Miami Nights’ is about brotherhood, redemption, and second chances — the kind of story that connects across borders. It’s grounded in character and emotion, but it also delivers the scale and adrenaline audiences crave. We’re proud of what this team built and can’t wait to share it with the world.”
Alongside “Miami Nights,” Stoic’s slate also includes “Carousel,” a romance film starring Chris Pine and Jenny Slate, directed by Rachel Lambert, as well as “The Midnight Pool” from director James McTeigue and starring Aaron Paul.
