A lockdown was in effect at two schools in Southwest Ranches due to nearby law enforcement activity, according to the Archdiocese of Miami. It has since been lifted.

St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic School and Archbishop McCarthy High School were locked down “due to police activity in the nearby area,” a statement from the Archdiocese of Miami reads.

“This of course is a precautionary measure and all staff, faculty, and students are safe,” the statement continued.

At around 9:47 a.m., the archdiocese said lockdown had been lifted and campus operations were returning to normal.

Videos show a law enforcement presence, including U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, nearby. Footage shows a landscaping truck for Marcos & Son Landscaping Service Inc. stopped on the roadway next to a Florida Highway Patrol and Broward Sheriff’s Office cruisers.

The owner of the company, Marco Perez, confirmed to NBC6 over the phone that there were two people inside the truck. He said one of them was taken into custody.

NBC6 is working to confirm that information with authorities.

"St. Marks Catholic School is on lockdown, in addition to Archbishop McCarthy High School due to police activity in the nearby area," a statement from the Archdiocese of Miami reads.
