TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Florida State University’s Board of Trustees voted to extend President Richard McCullough’s contract by three years on Wednesday.
McCullough’s term was set to end in August of this year, but has been extended to 2029.
The Board of Governors recently changed regulations so trustees do not have to wait until the end of a term to renew. They can also extend a contract for three years now instead of just one, which some trustees said gives the university a chance to plan further ahead.
The contract extension still needs to be approved by the Florida Board of Governors, and the trustees will still do Mcullough’s annual review in August.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, the trustees voted 11-1 to adopt a rule requiring faculty to post syllabi 45 days before the first day of class.
It’s a rule the state Board of Governors adopted last November to “maximize informed student choice.”
It’s a move many professors are against.
The one no vote was Faculty Senate President Roxanne Hughes, who shared why so many in her field are against the move.
“Taken out of context, it’s difficult for people to make a judgment,” Hughes said.
The Florida Education Association spoke out against the move as well, calling it a “continued attack on academic freedom.”
