A missing Jacksonville man has been rescued after being stuck in mud for several days, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says.
36-year-old Andrew Giddens was found alive at Vulcan Sand Plant in Melrose, where he had been stranded without food or water. The area also experienced freezing temperatures for several hours during the days he was stuck.
Officials say he is expected to recover.
Earlier Wednesday night, Putnam County Fire Rescue alerted the community that a “technical rescue” was being conducted at the site where he was later recovered.

The sheriff’s office had asked for the public’s assistance in locating Giddens Tuesday after his car was discovered close to the plant, near the intersection of Paran Church Road and State Road 100.
Giddens was reported missing earlier this month and reportedly last talked to his father on Valentine’s Day. Deputies were told he has been upset about a recent breakup and said they were concerned for his safety.
