Spring break cleared for takeoff at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport: what travelers can expect

  • February 26, 2026

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Spring break is cleared for takeoff in the Florida Panhandle, and so is the rush at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.

“Our big hit comes in the first weekend in March,” said Parker McClellan, ECP’s Executive Director, “we kick off for the month of March, just as they do on the beach.”

March means more flights, more passengers, and more movement through the terminal.

But airport leaders say it’s not just the crowds that travelers need to plan for.

“We’re looking at some different roadway issues because we’ve got the construction going,” said McClellan, “We’re going to have more people on the curb, there’s going to be a lot more movement of traffic.”

With less curb space and more cars circling, timing will be everything.

Airport officials say a little prep work can go a long way.

“Make sure you check your flight schedule, get the app on your phone so that you know what’s happening with your flight,” said McClellan, “so if it gets delayed, you’re not coming to the airport four hours early.”

They recommend arriving about an hour and a half to two hours before your flight, giving yourself plenty of time to clear security and make your gate.
