Fort Lauderdale, FL – Fort Lauderdale authorities are responding to widespread online speculation after a recent homicide investigation sparked rumors about a possible serial killer in the area.

During a public briefing, investigators said misinformation circulating on social media has created unnecessary fear and does not reflect the facts uncovered so far in the case.

Police said the rumors began after the body of a 30-year-old woman was discovered on February 18th near Northwest 15th Avenue.

Detectives determined the death was a homicide and later arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with the investigation.

According to police and details outlined in the arrest report, the suspect allegedly killed the victim inside a vacant apartment before moving the body outside, where it was later found covered with cardboard. .

Investigators said DNA evidence allegedly connected the suspect to the crime scene.
