TAMPA, Fla. – Downtown’s iconic Tampa Theatre is closing for a major renovation.

The theater, which is turning 100 later this year, will be close it’s auditorium for six months for a $30-million restoration and preservation project.

Crews are set to start renovation work on March 10.

The infrastructure will get an upgrade, the decorative paint and plaster will be restored and the original fixtures will be preserved. New restrooms will be added and enhanced lighting will be installed outside.

This is all happening before the theater’s 100th anniversary, which is in October.

The theater is expected to reopen at the end of September.

Still, movies and events will continue in the Taylor Screening Room, a small, adjacent 43-seat viewing room that opened two years ago.
