FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — A man has been found guilty of attempted first-degree murder and other charges in a 2023 MLK Day shooting in Fort Pierce that killed a young mother.

On Friday, Brian Workman, an assistant state attorney, confirmed that Kemmye Parson was convicted of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, second-degree felony murder, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the killing of Nikkitia Bryant.

Parson was arrested back in Tampa in 2023 by the U.S. Marshals and was previously held at the Hillsborough County Jail.

On Jan. 16, Nikkitia Bryant, 29, was shot and killed while she was attending the 2023 772 MLK Family Fun Day Festival and Car Show, held at Ilous Ellis Park. When shots were fired, Bryant was shielding her daughter from the gunfire when she was struck by multiple gunshots.

Following her death, Bryant’s mother, Nikkiti White, filed a lawsuit in the St. Lucie County Court against multiple parties for what transpired at the festival.
