Emirates flight EK214 departed Miami International Airport (MIA) on Friday, February 27, at 23:57 EST. The aircraft, registered as A6-EQC, was approximately nine hours into its scheduled 14-hour journey to Dubai International Airport (DXB) when the incident occurred.
The flight was cruising at an altitude of 31,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean and was just entering French airspace when the crew transmitted a Squawk 7700—the international code for a general emergency.
The Diversion
