ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — St Lucie County firefighters rescued four dogs from a house fire on Friday, breaking into the home while the owners were away.
According to the St. Lucie County Fire District, at around 8:48 a.m. they responded to reports of a house on fire, and while enroute, were informed that nobody was home, and three dogs were trapped.
Upon arrival, crews say they observed black smoke billowing from the homes roof. When attempting to enter, they also learned that all of the doors were locked.

Firefighters say they forced through the door and searched the residence while performing vertical ventilation on the roof to air out the home and provide more visibility.
During the search, SLCFD members say they removed four dogs, however, despite 30 minutes of lifesaving efforts, the dogs were “unable to be revived.”
No residence were located in the search and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to SLCFD.
