Welcome to our live blog for what was supposed to be the third and final game of the collegiate baseball weekend series between the Florida Gators and Miami Hurricanes at Mark Light Field. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate this afternoon, and the game was subsequently canceled.
Kevin O’Sullivan’s squad had already clinched the series win after posting a 7-2 victory on Friday night and an 8-4 triumph on Saturday, and is looking for the sweep on Sunday. J.D. Arteaga’s team came into the weekend undefeated but has not been able to solve the Gators’ potent offense.
Cooper Walls was scheduled take the bump for the visitors while Tate DeRias was slated to climb the hill for the home team. Below are the pregame updates as well as a preview of a matchup that will never be played.

NOTES: Cooper Walls looked very good in his Gators debut, but he ran into some early trouble against Kennsaw State last weekend. The Owls sat on his slider and jumped on his fastball until he adjusted, and the Hurricanes are sure to stick to that plan. When Walls gets ahead in the count, batters have to swing at his breaking ball, which is a plus pitch. Getting to that point is the key for Walls to help Florida in what could wind up as the rubber match in the series.
Tate DeRias was another late-season addition to Miami’s starting rotation in 2025. He was strong at times but finished the season a bit shaky. His strikeout rate fell to 11% and his walk rate elevated. DeRias finished the year with a 7.76 ERA over 29 innings, inflated by a nine-run inning that he didn’t get out of in his final start. More experience should help him, but the cracks in the armor are still there. DeRias throws a 97 mph fastball with a cutter and a slider that both draw swings and misses.
Other Players to Watch
When it comes to offense, Miami has plenty of it. Senior outfielder Derek Williams has been on a tear early on, hitting .563 with four home runs, five doubles and 15 RBIs. Williams also leads the team with a 1.736 OPS. FIU transfer first baseman Brylan West is also raking, hitting .462 with two doubles, a home run and 13 RBIs.
There’s also Dylan Dubovik, who is coming off the best weekend of any true freshman in the country. Dubovik is batting .750 with three doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs. Junior catcher Alex Sosa is second on the team with 14 hits, including five home runs, and Daniel Cuvet leads the Hurricanes with six bombs.
Out of the bullpen, Ryan Bilka (1.69 ERA, 8 K, 5.1 IP), Brixton Lofgren (0.00 ERA, 3.2 IP) and Lazaro Collera (4.22 ERA, 18 K, 10.2 IP, two starts) are names to watch. Jake Dorn (2.25 ERA, 4 K, 4.0 IP) and Jack Durso (5.40 ERA, 12 K, 6.2 IP) are the resident lefties.

Notes: Even Kevin O’Sullivan is 45-19 against Miami, and Florida has won 12 of the last 13 series, including this weekend, making it six against Miami. The last time Florida completed a sweep of Miami was in 2020 in Coral Gables, just weeks before the season was canceled by the COVID epidemic.
Florida vs Miami Prediction
The Gators complete the sweep behind another strong offensive performance, but the Canes will not go down quietly. Walls gets knocked out prematurely but the bullpen keeps the home bats at bay long enough to secure the sweep.
Game 3: Florida 9, Miami 6
