The Sanibel Public Library provides a variety of programming for adults and children.
Shorebirds of Sanibel and Captiva will take place on March 4 from 11 a.m. to noon with Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation shorebird biologist Audrey Albrecht. Attendees will learn about the shorebirds that nest and raise their young, including snowy plovers, Wilson’s plovers and least terns. She will also discuss how local conservation groups work together to conserve and protect the species and how the public can share the shore and help beach-nesting birds.
On March 4, R.E.A.D. to Rizzo will be held from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Youths will practice reading and reading out loud with Rizzo, a trained Reading Education Assistance Dog (R.E.A.D.) therapy dog. Registration is required by contacting esherman@sanlib.org.
Crafternoon: Shell Painting will take place on March 4 from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 5 and up, participants will learn the art of decorating shells. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.
On March 6, Book Talk and Signing with Author Nathan Kastle will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. A young memoirist and mental health advocate who studied acting for 13 years, he wrote “Path Illogical.” Kastle seeks to empower and amplify the voices of those who suffer in silence through his creative work and speaking engagements. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama at NYU and a Master of Arts in nonprofit management from Antioch University.
The World’s Second Most Famous Detective with Aaron Cohen will take place on March 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. Georges Simenon wrote 500 works of fiction, including 75 novels featuring Inspector Jules Maigret. Participants will look into the life of Simenon and his most famous fictional creation.
On March 11, Crafternoon: Play Ball! will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Open to ages 5 and up, participants will design their own baseball hat. A variety of craft supplies will be available, along with examples and guidance.
WEEKLY PROGRAMMING
– Family Storytime: Fridays and Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Bring the whole family to enjoy stories, songs, movement and early literacy play centers that spark creativity and motor skills. Open to babies and toddlers and their caregivers.
Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge. Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.
The library is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
