Downtown St. Pete is about to get a little louder, a little weirder, and a whole lot more fun. Trailer Daddy, a retro, trailer-park-inspired bar concept, is officially opening its doors at 217 Central Avenue on March 6, transforming the former Glamper space into what’s best described as a never-ending backyard summer barbecue with more neon signs and fewer rules.

Built around retro campers, gritty Americana details, and mass amounts of lawn flamingos, Trailer Daddy playfully blends the energy of a campground bar with the spectacle of a roadside attraction. It’s part bar, part club, and enjoyable chaos – perfect for anyone who wants cold drinks, good music, and an atmosphere that feels more like front-porch sipping than bottle service.

Less luxury, more lawn flamingos

The 5,000-square-foot space has been fully reimagined since its Glamper days, swapping polished glamping aesthetics for something more lived-in and lovable. Trailer Daddy leans into quirky nostalgia and kitsch, creating a vintage trailer-park dreamland where every corner feels intentional (and a little bit unhinged). Imagine hot grills, cold cans, and laundry drying on a line, where it’s easy to grab another drink and lose track of time.

Behind the concept is the same team responsible for other popular St. Pete destinations like Good Night John Boy, Welcome to the Farm, My Rich Uncle, HI 5, and Tony D’s Sub Shop. “St. Pete is creative, it’s growing, and it welcomes concepts that bring personality to the table,” says Bobby Rutter of Forward Hospitality Group. “We’re excited to bring something new and unexpected.”

Trailer Daddy delivers on that promise: less curated, more character.

A dream funded by a scratch-off

Every great trailer park needs a story, and Trailer Daddy is proud to have one. According to the bar’s legend, used-car salesman Waylon “Daddy” Whitley of Pensacola finally hit it big when his gas-station scratch-off revealed a $50,000 prize. The money was enough to fund his lifelong dream of moving to St. Pete and owning a bar—ideally one with cold beer, neon signs, and minimal paperwork.

That spirit runs through the entire space. Trailer Daddy is a funky homage to Waylon’s dream: rough around the edges, friendly at the core, and powered by the belief that the best nights happen by a half-inflated pool and a cooler that’s seen better days.

Come as you are (really)

Trailer Daddy’s soundtrack is as bold as its décor, featuring classic rock with a side of country that’s easy to imagine drifting through the air at a late-night bonfire. Inside, you’ll find surprises in every corner, including specialty cocktails such as Porch Pounder, M’urica, and Pickleback served in flamingo glasses, of course!

Rather than aiming for polish, Trailer Daddy embraces personality. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it doesn’t expect you to either. Everyone is invited to crack a cold beer. Locals and tourists welcome, mullets encouraged.

Opening dates and what to expect

Trailer Daddy will officially celebrate its grand opening on March 6 at 8 PM, inviting St. Pete to experience the full effect of its retro trailer dreamscape. Once open, the bar will operate seven days a week, adding another lively option to Central Avenue’s already buzzing nightlife.

The celebration continues all weekend long with special perks and themed fun:

Saturday, March 7 – Show up in your best mullet (wig included!), and you’ll be able to skip the line. That night will also feature a Best Mullet Contest, where one legendary winner will earn a permanent spot in the brand-new Mullet Hall of Fame.

Sunday, March 8 – Doors open at noon, and the first 50 guests through the door will receive a complimentary Bud Light, because no grand opening weekend is complete without a proper toast!

Whether you stop by for one drink or settle in for the night, the goal is simple: good music, picture-worthy drinks, and an unforgettable time. Follow along on Instagram or the bar’s website for updates on hours, events, and what’s rolling in next.
