TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – John Paul Bailey, a former Tallahassee city commissioner and Leon County republican died over the weekend, according to city officials.
Bailey died Sunday morning, the Leon County Republican Party announced Sunday afternoon on social media.
The republican party remembered him as “a kind man who was helpful to so many in our community” and someone who “was committed to the Republican Party and making our community and country a better place.”
“Our community will miss his leadership. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Donna and his entire family.”
Bailey was the last Republican to serve on the Tallahassee City Commission as well as the only Republican to ever be-relected, according to the political party.

The former city commissioner was hired at the Tallahassee Police Department in 1970, where city officials said he served in several units over the years, including patrol, criminal investigations and special operations just before retiring in 1996.
Furthermore, he ran for the city commission after his time at TPD, winning election twice, in 1996 and 2000, per the city.
