The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the woman over-corrected after striking a curb, hitting another car and then a tree.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was killed after crashing into a tree on Pritchard Road Monday afternoon, a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit official said in a news briefing.
Officers responded to the scene near the intersection with Bulls Bay Highway just after 4 p.m.
Investigators believe that the victim, a woman in her mid-40s, was driving east in a pickup truck when she struck a curb near the outside lane for unknown reasons. She then overcorrected, hitting a sedan in the inside lane before entering the median and hitting a large tree.Â
The sedan was pushed into the westbound lanes, but did not hit any other cars. The two people in the sedan did not report any injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.Â
This marks the 42nd deadly crash on Duval County roads so far in 2026, outpacing the number at this time last year.
Another driver was killed Monday morning after striking a pole in a Starbucks parking lot, while three others died Sunday in a four-car collision on Atlantic Boulevard.
