JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Icemen continued their Military Appreciation Weekend with a Sunday matinee game against the Florida Everblades. Jacksonville, who wore their specialty Publix Funday jerseys, lost 4-1 to Florida, who continue to sit at the top of the South Division, and second in the league.
In a fairly evenly matched first period, Oliver Chau scored at the 13:43 mark to put the Everblades up 1-0. There was a slight delay in the start of the second period while the officials and players allowed additional time for the ice to freeze over due to a delay in the ice being cleaned by the Zamboni. This was caused by the Fan-Zamboni breaking down on the ice and needing to be pushed off. Logan Cockerill scored the only goal of the game for Jacksonville on a defensive turnover at the 5:10 mark of the second period to even up the score. Florida regained the lead with a power play goal by Jordan Sambrook midway through the period, to make it 2-1.
Halfway through the third period, a goal by Reid Duke gave Florida a 3-1 advantage. In the closing minutes of the game, Jacksonville opted to pull their netminder from the crease for the extra attacker. Oliver Cooper scored an empty net goal to secure a 4-1 win for the Everblades.
