For two decades, Miami Dade College has opened its doors to residents seeking accessible healthcare. On Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Miami Dade College (MDC) will commemorate that milestone by hosting its 20th Annual Community Health Fair at its Medical Campus.

The free event has grown into one of the most anticipated health outreach initiatives in Miami-Dade County. Each year, more than 2,000 people attend, many relying on the fair as their primary source of preventive screenings and health education.

“For 20 years, this health fair has stood as a lifeline for our community,” said Dr. Alwyn Leiba, President of MDC’s Medical Campus. “For many families, this is not just a convenient event—it is their one chance each year to check on their health, catch potential issues early, and connect with trusted medical professionals. That reality underscores the responsibility we carry and the impact this event continues to have.”

Since its inception, the fair has delivered more than 40,000 free screenings and wellness services. Organizers estimate that over 25,000 residents have participated throughout its history. Screenings have helped identify chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and periodontal disease, often before symptoms become severe.

The initiative plays a particularly important role for uninsured and underinsured residents, helping eliminate financial and language barriers that can delay preventive care.

Attendees this year will have access to a broad range of medical services, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, Hepatitis C, A1C and lipid panel screenings. Eye and dental exams will be available, along with eGFR testing to evaluate kidney function. The fair will also introduce pTau testing, designed to detect proteins linked to memory changes and Alzheimer’s disease.

Comprehensive cancer screenings will be offered for colorectal, cervical, prostate and breast cancer, including on-site mammograms. In addition, veterinary professionals will provide vaccinations and basic services for cats and dogs.

Families are encouraged to attend together. A Children’s Corner will offer face painting, balloons, arts and crafts and interactive entertainment to create a welcoming environment for all ages.

The 20th Annual Community Health Fair will be held at the MDC Medical Campus, located at 950 N.W. 20th Street in Miami. Admission and services are free and open to the public.
