ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg police have a suspect in custody following a shooting that wounded two people Wednesday morning near the intersection of 15th Avenue South and 11th Street South. The incident triggered a brief lockdown at nearby schools while officers secured the neighborhood.
The situation began around 10:40 a.m. when police received reports of shots being fired in the area. Arriving officers found a teenage boy and an adult woman suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were quickly moved to a local hospital. Officials confirmed the teenager is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but the woman’s condition remains unknown.
As a precaution, schools in the immediate vicinity were locked down for a short period. Those restrictions have since been lifted, and students have returned to their normal schedules.
Police have not yet released the identities of the victims or the individual in custody. The investigation is still active as detectives work to determine what led to the violence.
