JENSEN BEACH, Fla (CBS12) — Martin County firefighters recently carried out a complex rooftop rescue after a worker suffered a medical emergency while on top of a home in Jensen Beach.

According to Martin County Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched on February 24 after an adult male became unresponsive while working on the roof of a private home. Because of the height and limited access, the department’s Special Response Team (SRT) was called to conduct the technical rescue.

Fire officials said SRT members climbed onto the roof and began providing emergency medical care under challenging conditions. Crews used a LUCAS device — a mechanical chest compression system designed to deliver consistent, automated CPR — to maintain continuous compressions both on the roof and during the patient’s descent to the ground.

Once the man was safely lowered, paramedics continued care and administered Advanced Life Support treatment in the ambulance. The patient, who was in serious condition, was transported to a nearby hospital.

Fire rescue officials commended the teamwork involved, saying the response demonstrated the department’s commitment to handling high-risk rescues. No additional details about the patient were released.
