SEMINOLE — Jack Jenny was more than just a barber for over 60 years.

Customers at Portobello Barbers in Seminole remember him as a good, decent man who made it fun to get one’s hair cut.

Jenny died in late January. A memorial service — open to those who knew him — celebrating his life will be held at Mickey Quinn’s in the Portobello Plaza on Park Boulevard on Sunday March 8, from 1-4 p.m. Hors oeuvres and memories of a live well lived will be served.

A native of Milwaukee, Jenny started out in the business in 1963 in his hometown. Eventually he made his way to Florida and began working at Portobello Barbers in 2009.

“He quickly became part of the family,” said Robin Pippenger, owner of the barber shop. “He made work fun.”

Pippenger added that “Jack was a powerhouse of humor, decency, and dedication. We were all entertained by his funny, interesting, and unique stories. Simply stated, he was a one in a million who is greatly missed. Although Jack has left us, his legacy of humor will always be with us.”

Jenny learned about being a barber at an early age, thanks to his father, a military veteran.

Jenny started his barbering career in1963 at his father’s shop — Jack’s Barber Shop — in Milwaukee, and later took over the family business.

While living in Milwaukee, he was deputized with the city’s mounted police.

Jenny met his wife, Regina, on a blind date and were married for 25 years. He lived with Regina and his brother-in-law, Chris, and four dogs. They all shared a love for animals.

He also had a love for his vocation. His humor, fun and stories will be etched in the memories of his customers forever.
