THONOTOSASSA, FL — A pilot was uninjured after his small plane hit a power line and a tree during an emergency landing late Tuesday night in Thonotosassa, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The pilot experienced mechanical issues with his single-engine aircraft just after 10:30 p.m.
The Tampa International Airport Police Department alerted the sheriff’s office to the emergency landing.
While trying to land on Weaver Lane, the plane hit a power line and a tree, HCSO said.
It eventually landed near Weaver Land and Rockhill Road.
“When the pilot lost engine power and was forced to make an emergency landing, our deputies responded immediately to secure the scene,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Thankfully, the pilot was able to walk away without serious injury. Thanks to the swift coordination between Tampa International Airport Police, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, and our deputies, this situation was handled quickly and safely. Partnerships like these make all the difference when seconds count.”
