CLERMONT, Fla. — The Jacksonville Women’s rowing program opens its quest for another Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title this weekend, opening the spring competition season with a bout against the Villanova Wildcats.

Originally scheduled for Gainesville, Florida, the two teams will race Friday morning in Clermont, Florida.

The Wildcats finished fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association championships last season. Villanova and Jacksonville are frequent foes. Last season, the Wildcats visited Duval County for an early March race.

The teams also competed at the Knecht Cup and Lake Wheeler invite. At the Knecht Cup, the Dolphins finished higher in the Varsity 4+, while the Wildcats posted a stronger result in the Varsity 8+.

At the Lake Wheeler Invite, both Villanova posted better times in both races in the eights, while the Dolphins were stronger in the fours.

Friday’s rowing is a chance for both teams to get competitive reps before a full slate of Spring regattas.
